Duties and Responsibilities: Teachers are responsible for: Preparing lesson plans, teaching classes and evaluating student progress. Encouraging students and acting as teacher–advisors for students. Maintaining discipline in the classroom.

Salary: $60,055

Education: Every state requires that public school teachers be licensed by completing education requirements and passing examinations.

A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement for licensure. Elementary teachers hold bachelor's degrees in education, while high school teachers have degrees in a subject area. Special education teachers may major in special education or in a content area with a minor in special education. In some states, teachers must go on to earn master's degrees after obtaining licensure.

Demand:According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-2011, employment of teachers is expected to grow by 13% between 2008 and 2018
